چکیده

This paper investigates the relationship between electricity demand and temperature in the European Union. We address this issue by means of a panel threshold regression model on 15 European countries over the last two decades. Our results confirm the non linearity of the link between electricity consumption and temperature found in more limited geographical areas in previous studies. By distinguishing between North and South countries, we also find that this non linear pattern is more pronounced in the warm countries. At last, rolling regressions highlight the significant impact of climate change on electricity use in Europe. JEL Classification: C23, Q41

An Investigation of the Impact of Government Size on Economic Growth: New Evidence from Selected MENA Countries

This paper investigates the impact of government size on economic growth in selected economies of the MENA countries by using a non-linear panel data approach over the period 1990-2011. The estimation results of Panel Smooth Threshold Regression model show that when the level of government consumption is very large, the positive impact of labor force on growth is intensified. On the other hand,...

Environmental Kuznets Curve: new evidences based on a dynamic panel threshold model

This paper examines the non-linear relationship between CO2 emissions and economic development using an innovative dynamic panel threshold technique. The sample consists of 35 developed countries over the period 2003-2010. The empirical results indicate that there is a threshold effect in the relationship between economic growth and pollutant emissions as suggested by the environmental Kuznets ...

The Relationship between Residential Electricity Consumption and Income: A Piecewise Linear Model with Panel Data

There are many uncertainties and risks in residential electricity consumption associated with economic development. Knowledge of the relationship between residential electricity consumption and its key determinant—income—is important to the sustainable development of the electric power industry. Using panel data from 30 provinces for the 1995–2012 period, this study investigates how residential...

An Estimation of Laffer Curve in Iran: A Non-Linear Approach

Laffer curve indicates relationship between tax rate and tax income. The aim of this paper is estimating of laffer curve in Iranian economy. To do so, we have used threshold regression method. Empirical results indicate that since the tax rate is low (the threshold value is less than 0.0848) in two-regime model, tax rate and tax income have a significant positive relationship, but when the tax ...

Energy Consumption in Economic Sectors and Environmental Pollution in Iran with Emphasis on Electricity and Non-Electricity

In this study, an attempt is made to investigate the effect of energy consumption on environmental pollution in Iran. For this purpose, a basic model (the whole economy) and three sectoral models (household, commercial and public; industry and transportation) has been estimated with an autoregressive distributed lag approach in the period 1971-2017. The results of the model estimation show the ...
